The International Migrants Alliance (IMA) condemns in the strongest terms US-backed Zionist Israel’s violation of the ceasefire agreement and its continuing genocide of the Palestinian people.
As of Sunday, 19th January, the Palestinian people were ready to welcome what was supposed to be the first day of a ceasefire agreement between the Zionist Israel State and the Hamas Palestinian resistance fighters. However, Israel has already violated the ceasefire, with credible reports circulating of airstrikes, mass arrests, burning of villages and shooting at civilians returning home after the ceasefire had already come into effect.
After the ceasefire agreement went into effect on 19th January at 8:30am Gaza time, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire with tanks and artillery shelling at displaced Palestinians who were attempting to return to their homes in Rafah and Khan Younis, and killed at least 19 civilians. The IOF launched a major raid into Jenin titled "Operation Iron Wall", killing and injuring more than 100 civilians. There have been reports of Israeli settlers burning Palestinian villages in the West Bank under the protection of the IOF while snipers were still killing children in Rafah, and shooting at those who tried to retrieve their bodies. Israeli drones bombed vehicles and civilians in the East of Gaza, killing at least three civilians. The IOF carried out arbitrary mass arrests of over 60 Palestinians in the West Bank on the same day that 90 Palestinians were released, and fired tear gas towards Palestinians who were awaiting the release of their relatives as part of the ceasefire agreement. While we acknowledge as a positive move the Israeli government's decision to gradually release Palestinian prisoners, Israel has clearly demonstrated violation of the ceasefire agreement.
The IMA calls on the Israeli government to immediately and unconditionally end its genocide and persecution of Palestinians, release all Palestinian captives, demolish its illegal settlements, and cease occupation of Palestine.
We likewise call on the international community, including all Israeli advocates of just peace, to pressure Zionist Israel to allow the free movement of commodities, services, and humanitarian supplies to the Palestinian people.
The IMA will always support the Palestinian people in their fight for justice, freedom, and self-determination. We reaffirm our steadfast solidarity with the struggle of Palestinian people to national liberation and for all to return to their motherland.
Uphold the ceasefire! End Zionist Israel’s occupation of Palestine and the genocide of the Palestinian people! Palestine for the Palestinians! ###
