Protect the Filipino migrants in Taiwan
Taiwan and Philippine governments should resolve crisis now

Filipino migrants are innocent. They should be protected.

This is the call of the International Migrants’ Alliance as it urgently demands both the Philippine and Taiwanese governments to immediately resolve the conflict that rose from the May 9 shooting of a 65-year old Taiwanese fisherman.

Statement of the International Migrants’ Alliance on the Sabah standoff

We in the International Migrants’ Alliance (IMA) call on both the Philippine and Malaysian governments to immediately cease from any militaristic pursuits to resolve the Sabah standoff and instead sit down for a dialogue to peacefully and justly settle the crisis.

The crisis has seen 61 people killed and several others injured. It has also caused an escalation in cases of arrest, detention and deportation of many undocumented Filipinos in Malaysia, particularly those in Sabah. According to news reports, more than 300 Filipinos have already been deported since the start of the standoff. Not only layoffs of Filipinos have been reported but also allegations of abuse and ostracism of Filipino deportees by Malaysian authorities.  Al conmemorar el 12 º año del Día Internacional del Migrante, la Alianza Internacional de Migrantes (IMA) saluda a todos los trabajadores migrantes, los refugiados, los desplazados y sus familia, asi como todo los  que contribuimos a construir un movimiento por el reconocimiento, el respeto y la protección de nuestros derechos y dignidad.

En muchos países, las organizaciones de migrantes y sindicatos comprometidos cuestionamos a los gobiernos, tanto de los países emisores y receptores de migrantes para pedir la derogación de las políticas anti-migrantes, para abordar los problemas inmediatos y las campañas sobre los migrantes en peligro, elaborar alternativas y propuestas para resolver la migración forzada trabajo.
