IMA Study Forum on the International Day of the Seafarer - June 25th

Warm greetings from the International Migrants Alliance (IMA)!

We would like to invite you to join us for an online IMA Study Forum on the International Day of the Seafarer - June 25th to discuss and learn about the global situation, services, organizing, and campaigns of seafarers.

Hundreds of thousands of seafarers are stranded on ships all across the world right now because of the COVID-19 health pandemic. This past week, their union - the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) - is now calling for their immediate release.

The Study Forum will be held via Zoom on Thursday, June 25th at the following times:

7:00 AM US West Coast (PDT)

9:00 AM Ecuador

10:00 AM New York/Montreal (EST)

11:00 AM Argentina

3:00 PM United Kingdom

4:00 PM Italy/Netherlands

7:30 PM India

10:00 PM HK/Manila

During the 1.5 hour forum, presenters will discuss the following:

- The general situation of seafarers and the current crises they face

- Church-based missions for seafarers and their welfare programs and services

- Labor/community solidarity and challenges and prospects for organizing seafarers

- Recent seafarer campaigns and projects at ports in the U.S.

A Q&A and discussion will follow to deepen our understanding on the issue of seafarers and explore opportunities for organizing and advocacy with seafarers in different global regions.
